Organised labour under the auspices of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has criticized the extension of tenure of the permanent secretary, federal ministry of petroleum resources, Mrs Jamila Shu’ara, by one year.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos and signed by the ASCSN national president, comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama and the secretary-general, comrade Alade Bashir Lawal on Tuesday.

Labour posited that the extension of tenure of the PS violated Public Service Rules (PSR) 020810 which states that: “the compulsory retirement age for grades in the service shall be 60 years or 35 years of pensionable service, whichever is earlier.”

According to the ASCSN, the PSR equally emphasizes that: “no officer shall be allowed to remain in service after attaining the retirement age of 60 years or 35 years of pensionable service, whichever is earlier.”

The union called for a reversal of the anomaly.

Mrs Shu’ara reportedly retired from service on February, 17, 2016 but seven days later, had her service extended to February, 16, 2017 by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHSCF) for inexplicable reason.
