The managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi, has called for the establishment of a tripartite committee that will put in place a frame work for the effective utilisation of the Ikorodu Lighter Terminal in Lagos while on a joint inspection of the terminal with the comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col Hammed Ali (rtd).
The NPA boss suggested that such a committee should be comprised of representatives of the NPA, NCS, and the Federal Ministry of Transport, and should be mandated to interface with other stakeholders to work out modalities for the optimal utilisation of the terminal.
Speaking in the same vein, Ali emphasised the need for a meeting, preferably a technical committee that will come with proposals or modalities on putting the terminal to optimal use, saying that both the NCS and NPA are partners in progress and that the two agencies should work together for the mutual benefit of the country.
Alli directed that the Zone A command of the Nigeria Customs Service should look into how the two large warehouses in Ikorodu, described as the largest in Nigeria could be well utilised.
