Senate Meets With CPC, NBC, Ministers Over Company’s Violations

The Senate urged the committee on Information to inform all stakeholders on the Nigerian subscriber rights and also on ways to protect Nigerian subscribers.

Council orders DStv to upgrade its services

Emeka Enelamah, Minister of Industries, Trade and Investments, Head of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission and the Consumer Protection Council were all called to a meeting on Wednesday, February 26, 2016 with the Senate over the reported unhealthy practices by Multichoice Nigeria, operators of Digital Satellite Television (DSTv)

The Senate urged the committee on Information to inform all stakeholders on the Nigerian subscriber rights and also on ways to protect Nigerian subscribers.

Commenting on the reports on Multichoice’s unhealthy practices, Senator Isah Misau said that being that Multichoice’s brand DSTv is known to dominate the Nigerian satellite television market it is unlawful to engage in negative and unhealthy trade practices.

Further stating that DSTv in some years have been in various legal battles with aggrieved subscribers who were dissatisfied with the programming service and alleged unreasonable subscription hikes across their various bouquets which had led to growing public complaints and petitions.

Following the English premier league most football loving Nigerians have been at the mercy of DSTv and since then Nigerians have complained about the arbitrary increase in the subscription charges.

Many concerned Nigerians are aggrieved and in constant demand to stop DSTV’s arbitrary price hikes, noting that recent increase in DSTV subscription is outrageous and totally unacceptable,” he said.
