He was said to have stated this when he led a team from the company to visit the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Overseas Affairs and Investment, Prof. Ademola Abass.
A statement by the firm quoted Engel as saying that Unilever, which had been operating in Nigeria for over 90 years, would continue to invest in the country, notwithstanding the prevailing economic challenges.
He said, “Nigeria is strategic to our business operations. This is why we remain committed to the country’s socio-economic development. We currently operate two manufacturing hubs in Nigeria, and we are already taking actions to increase our local manufacturing capacity. These investments will not only provide additional employment opportunities for Nigerians, but will deliver further economic value through the development of a sustainable supply chain structure consisting of many local manufacturers.”
The statement quoted Abass as saying that government should support Unilever in its expansion plan.
He further stated that the Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment would continually perform its role as a one-stop shop for investment in Lagos State, and ensure ease of doing business in Nigeria.
“Our aim is to provide the enabling environment to help businesses in Nigeria; hence we want to assure you of our continuous support in this regard. The present administration is passionate about the economic development of the state through foreign direct investment,” he stated.
