So Sad! Another Popular Actress Dies At 37 (Photo)

A leading actress in the Hausa film industry, Aisha Dankano, has died. She was aged 37.
She died at home yesterday evening in Dorayi quarters of Kano city, after a month-long illness.
The funeral prayer was offered at her parents’ home in Gwammaja section of the city and she was subsequently buried last night at the Kofar Mazugal cemetary.

The buxom lady, who usually played villainous roles, was one of the first women that pioneered the very popular Hausa home videos 26 years ago.

In an interview with the industry’s leading news magazine, Fim, last year, she revealed that out of the several women that first appeared in the movies only Yahanasu Sani and her remained active. The rest had either retired into marriage or died.
In the interview, she also stated that she was born “in the year Shehu Shagari was first elected as president of Nigeria” – i.e. 1979.
Dankano, also known to her fans as Sima after a popular role about two decades ago, has appeared in hundreds of movies and won awards for her acting in several of them.
She is survived by her four children, consisting of one male and three girls. Her eldest daughter Zainab is scheduled to be married next month.

Stakeholders in the Hausa film industry became numb with shock last night when news of her demise broke.
Sani Mu’azu, a leading director and actor, mourned her on Facebook thus: “Aisha will be missed by practitioners of the industry and her teeming fans for her flawless ability to weave her dialogue with witty words from the Hausa language of which she was a master. Aisha combined this with her looks and charismatic presence.

For this, she received several awards one of which was in Niger Republic last year.
“She featured in hundreds of movies over the years, one of which was Dan Birni, a movie we worked together with her as recently as last December in Zaria. Her hilarious jokes and vibrancy is still as vivid and fresh in my memory of her as if it was yesterday.
“May Allah forgive her shortcomings and trespasses. May He reward her good deeds with the Garden of endless bliss – Jannat Firdaus. Ameen.”
