Reekado Banks has just received his prize for emerging Next Rated Act at the Headies 2015 which held on January 1, 2016.
The singer won the award, beating his Mavin label mate Korede Bello, then signed YBNL rapper Lil Kesh and G-Worldwide singer Kiss Daniel, among others – the result of which was trailed by controversy fueled by YBNL boss Olamide who didn’t agreewith the outcome of the announcement, arguing that his artist Kesh was more deserving of the award. Mavin boss Don Jazzy had something to say about that, and the drama went on till they eventually settled.
Months later, Olamide officially tendered an apology to the Headies organisers on his conduct at the show.
Both artists have since moved on, with Lil Kesh dropping his debut album, “Y.A.G.I” earlier in the year and Reekado about to drop his soon, which he titles “Spotlight”.
The album “Spotlight” is expected to contain collaborations with Nigerian and international acts with his popular songs – ‘Katapot’, ‘Sugar baby’, ‘Corner’, ‘Tomorrow’, and ‘Oluwa ni’ , ‘Standard’ amongst others expected on the 18 album tracklist.
Banks’ single ‘Oluwa ni’ has been nominated for Best Song at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards coming up in September 2016.
