Justice Husain Baba Yusuf of the Abuja High Court has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to grant the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki access to his lawyer outside its premises.
This is coming on the heels of a complaint filed by Dasuki’s counsel, Adeola Adedipe, stating that the DSS has refused to let him see his client despite a court order that was issued on April 6, 2016.
Dasuki has been granted bail severally by different courts, but has still been held in the custody of the DSS since December 2015.
He is standing trial for allegedly diverting $15b meant for the purchase of arms for the military to prosecute the war against Boko Haram.
Justice Baba Yusuf ordered the DSS to let Dasuki’s lawyer meet with him at a neutral place, so he can prepare for his defence.
The Judge also mandated the security agency to let Dasuki meet with his lawyer between Monday and Friday this week at the Federal Capital Territory Judiciary Headquarters, Maitama-Abuja.
The Federal Government has also stated that Dasuki’s continued detention is for his safety and that of Nigerians.
