Gov. Tambuwal Sets Up Probe On Teenager’s Kidnap, Forced Marriage

The Governor of Sokoto State has ordered a high powered probe into allegations of the abduction of a teenage girl in the state.

Following the allegation of the abduction of a female teenager,Patience Paul, 15, an indigene of Benue State, by two Muslim men identified as Monde and Suleiman, who are members of the the Hisbah group in Sokoto State, and taken to the palace of the Sultan of the Caliphate, where she was forcefully converted to Islam and given out in marriage, the Governor of Sokoto State,Aminu Tambuwal, has ordered an urgent probe into the matter with a view to bringing any one culpable to book.

The case which came to light on the heels of the celebration abduction and eventual release of 14-year-old Ese Oruru, has reportedly caused Gov. Tambuwal serious embarrassment and he has ordered immediate investigation into the alleged abduction and forced marriage of the girl.

In a statement signed by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Imam Imam, the governor ordered the state human rights commission and other agencies to investigate the matter immediately and report to him.

“Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal directed the state Human Rights Commission to undertake a thorough investigation into the allegations and report same to the government.

In the interim, the Human Rights Commission was asked to present an interim report and update the public with all information as it becomes available.

In the first 24 hours, the state Human Rights Commission has contacted the Sultanate Council and the State Police Command for a briefing.

The state Human Rights Commission has also spoken to the State Hisbah Commission, as well as the person whose phone number was given in the initial allegation made online.

Despite efforts, however, the state Human Rights Commission has been unable to contact the family of Patience Paul or anyone who will shed more light on the allegations,” the statement said.
