Tinubu’s bravery and gutsiness encouraged the coalition of opposition parties which formed the All Progressives Congress (APC) and offered Nigerians a way out of, if not a solution to, their governance problems.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is undoubtedly one of the most powerful politicians in Nigeria today.

Tinubu’s bravery and gutsiness encouraged the coalition of opposition parties which formed the All Progressives Congress (APC) and offered Nigerians a way out of, if not a solution to, their governance problems.

The APC leader gathered together more enlightened minds than Nigerians were used to and spurred them on to introduce a new brand of leadership to the country.

This is not to say that Tinubu and his protégés are perfect, but at least they are different, many miles away from the usual thugs and miscreants who have in the past occupied public office in Nigeria.

Tinubu turned 64 yesterday, March 29, 2016, and the extent of his influence could be seen in the fact that even staunch APC opponent, Ayo Fayosepaid tribute to him.

“Whether one likes it or not, Asiwaju Tinubu has become a political pillar and leader, not only in Yorubaland but in Nigeria. He is a great politician who takes well-calculated political steps,” Fayose said in a statement released by his media aide, Idowu Adelusi.

“Asiwaju Tinubu is a good case study when one talks about political resilience and doggedness and no wonder he now ranks among the leaders of this great country,” he added.

President Muhammadu Buhari was also full of praise for the man who played a major part in providing him with a platform to be the first person in history to unseat an incumbent Nigerian leader.

In a statement released by his media aide, Femi Adesina, Buhari commended Tinubu’s “visionary leadership style” and praised him for “creating a formidable opposition party in Nigeria that worked vigorously within a short period to oust a party that had been in power for 16 years.”

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, who is not known for idle words, also had good things to say about Tinubu and his position as one of the champions of change.

“The political atmosphere today, whatever you call it, change or hope or cautious hope and naked hope or careless hope, I recognise two personalities, in particular, who led the chant of change,” Soyinka said on Thursday, May 14, 2015, during the public presentation of ‘Dynamics of Change: The Amaechi Years,’ a book edited by a former Managing Director of Daily Times, Yemi Ogunbiyi, and author, Chidi Amuta.

“One of them, I call him the architect of the process, the architect, in fact, that houses the essence of hope. That is Ahmed Bola Tinubu,” he added.

Tinubu might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he is undoubtedly a formidable force in Nigeria’s political sphere.

The APC leader has wielded power like very few have to achieve things that very few could.

So on that note I say, all hail Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Jagaban Borgu and Nigeria’s own one-man change army.
