Jigawa Workers Seeks Assembly Intervention Over Salary Cut


Worker in the department of finance and administration in the Jigawa state ministry of health has seeks the intervention of the state assembly to halt the move by governor Badaru to cut their salaries.

The workers lodge their complain and seek the assembly intervention during a visit to the speaker of the house Hon Idiris Garba yesterday.

Speaking during the visit the leader of the workers delegation Muhammad Abdullahi told the speaker that, according to the civil service law, “Medical and all other staffs of ministry of Health are to enjoy the COHENS salary scale” and we have been enjoying it since its introduction”.

He said, to their own surprise, a circular was said to be circulating to exclude non medical staff of the ministry from enjoying the Salary scale, which if implemented their salary would be cut to more than half.

Muhammed added that, since the salary scale they are enjoying is backed by the civil service rule which was duly passed by the assembly, they are urging the house to intervene and stop any attempt to change the system.

In his respond, the speaker of the assembly Hon Idiris Garba thanks the worker for using proper,peaceful and democratic process to channel their grievances.
