Undergraduates To Spend 3 Years In Jail Over Cultism


For engaging in secret cult activities, two students of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Akintunde Olumide and Oladapo Olaoluwa were yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Ado Ekiti High Court.

The accused who committed the offence on July 13,2013 at an hotel in Iworoko -Ekiti were standing trial on a three-count-charge of stealing, assault and secret cult.

The offence, according to the police prosecution, Mr Femi Falade told the was punishable under Section 355,4(1) of criminal code Laws of Ekiti State 2012 and Secret cults(Abolition and Prohibition).

The prosecution counsel and the defendant counsel, Mr Emmanuel Oluwole called four and three witnesses respectively to prove their cases.

In her ruling, Justice Mosun Abodunde said that the prosecution counsel had established the case of secret cult beyond reasonable doubt and that the accused had made a confessional statement as a member of Black Axe at the criminal investigation department during interrogation.

Justice Abodunde added that the police found in their custody, small cultlass ,black head Warmer,black T.shirt, black trousers during investigation.

“The cutlass is not a tool for education, it is a weapon of danger and indiscrimination, which should not be seen within the school premises” she added.
