Libya’s UN-backed unity government has continued to receive the support of the international community.
Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders flew to Tripoli on Thursday accompanied by Dutch Ambassador to Libya and other officials from the Dutch foreign ministry.
During his visit, he stressed on strengthening support to the north African country.
With this visit, I want to highlight my support as Dutch Foreign Minister and also as president of the European Union council of ministers.
“With this visit, I want to highlight my support as Dutch Foreign Minister and also as president of the European Union council of ministers … our support and also our support in very practical terms for the tasks that lie ahead for Libya,” he said.
Koenders is the latest European foreign minister to pay a visit to Libya and he added that Libya will receive coast guard training especially in dealing with illegal migration.
The talks with prime minister-designate Fayez al Sarraj also focused on security in Libya, humanitarian assistance and Libyan frozen assets in the Netherlands.
Netherlands is keen on cooperation in the development of Libyan ports, agriculture, water management and logistics.
