Bayelsa’s ‘University of Africa’ Ready to Begin Academic Activities

Seriake Dickson

The University of Africa, a recently established institution in Bayelsa state, would kick off academic activities in January 2017.

The expected resumption is subsequent to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bayelsa state government and Global Education Counseling Limited, Cyprus.

Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the chief press secretary to governor Seriake Dickson, said the University of Africa, would deter parents from sending their children and wards abroad for tertiary education.

Theo Theodorou, director of GECL, was quoted to have praised Dicskon on the establishment of the university and his efforts at repositioning the educational sector.

“I have seen over the years, thousands of Nigerians, sending their children abroad for studies. This idea must be stopped. Let us educate our children in Nigeria”, he said.

Theodorou also noted that his organisation would work assiduously to make the university one of the best in the world, adding that the necessary facilities would be put in place to achieve the feat.

He disclosed that the School of Foundation Studies, an arm of the institution which prepares prospective students for various degrees, would commence in January 2017.
