The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, says federal and state governments need to work together for the benefit of Nigerians.

Buhari, who was represented by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at a two-day official visit to Lagos State, which commenced on Monday, added that the government at the central was already working with the Lagos government to deliver projects to benefit residents of the state.

He said, “The Federal Government will continue to support the Lagos State Government to actualise several projects. For instance, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos-Kano and Lagos-Calabar rail lines are projects embedded in the 2016 budget which will benefit Lagosians immensely.”

The President commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his works in the state, adding that Lagos under Ambode had maintained its leading role in delivering good governance to the people.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Response Unit in Cappa, Oshodi, Buhari said, “There is no question that this facility is a world-class facility.”

The response unit has three forklifts, one crane, 13 trucks, 10 paramedic motorcycles, two fire trucks and ambulances, among others.

Buhari, who later inaugurated the Ago Palace Way in Okota, expressed hope that the road would promote trade and investment and enhance movement along the corridor.

The President said, “I am impressed with the fact that the whole effort at security is an integrated one. I want to say that the governor of this state deserves our commendation.”

In his remark, Ambode said aside providing security infrastructure, his administration was also giving attention to the welfare of the security personnel through payment of allowances and provision of insurance facilities to compensate for any unfortunate incident while on active duty.

“In addition, officers and men who demonstrate bravery, gallantry and high level commitment to duty are being acknowledged and appropriately rewarded,” he said.

Responding on behalf of all the security agencies, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, assured the governor that the agencies would put the equipment to optimal use.

He said, “When you (Ambode) gave us the first set of equipment, I did promise you that to whom much is given, much is expected and the officers and men of the command have worked tirelessly to ensure that the crime rate in Lagos is within tolerable limit that will attract investment into the state.

“I can also promise you today that we will continue to work and ensure that the peace and stability of Lagos State is guaranteed.”
