Soyinka made his comments via a statement sent to Sahara Reporters. The statement reads in part:
“I have just seen the release by the NDA that I shall be leading NDA’S negotiating team. I wish to make it abundantly clear that I have never at any time agreed to any such mission. My role in this affair has been restricted to advising this movement on realistic approaches to a rational resolution. I have no intention of extending that role.”
Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has said that he has no interest in acting as a negotiator for militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) in its talks with the government.
He also denied every agreeing to represent the group in the planned negotiations.
“I have also insisted on a holistic approach to the recurrent unrest in the Delta, such as addressing such discontent within the context of national restructuring.”
Meanwhile, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has described the NDA as immature over the latter group’s recent bombing of the Bonny export line.
NDA bombed the facility on Friday, September 23, after accusing President Muhammadu Buhari and his government of over dramatizing the so-called dialogue and negotiation process.
