Mimiko Caused His Own Downfall Even Before The Ondo Election – Source Confirms

Governor Mimiko may have been responsible for the PDP’s failure in the just concluded Ondo election, a source confirms. A source who spoke exclusively to detailed how Mimiko’s political romance with the factional chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff contributed to his downfall. Details have emerged how the outgoing governor of Ondo state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko contributed to the loss of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. According to the source, Mimiko kept fraternizing with Sheriff even when majority of the authentic PDP members, including Mimiko’s colleagues had abandoned the former Borno state governor.

The source said: “Mimiko was his own worst enemy, what he was doing was that he ended up in bed with Ali Modu-Sheriff until recently. “When everyone in the party was fighting Sheriff he (Mimiko) kept his relationship with him. “Initially, in the beginning it was Governors Fayose and Wike that brought Sheriff, as you know but Mimiko (who is the chairman of the governor’s forum) knew it was the wrong thing to do but he didn’t block it; he could have stopped that move.

“There was enough support within the governor’s forum to stop it but Mimiko did not move; he lied against those guys (governors), he just allowed it to happen. “When the man (Sheriff) now came in, people started complaining, the same Mimiko was frustrating efforts by the party members and he was openly supporting Ali Modu-Sheriff, even though he knew he was bad news.”

The source alleged that Mimiko kept close ties with Sheriff, adding that the Ondo governor was wary of the problems Sheriff might cause for him during the Ondo PDP primary election. “They were still in a good relationship to the extent that Sheriff even suggested he (Mimiko)should take a form for the governorship, give it to his candidate but under the condition that he will make it on the Sheriff-faction of PDP platform not Makarfi’s faction.

“At this point, Mimiko was refusing to allow the Makarfi group to help him. He just kept the whole Ondo thing to himself. “Mimiko alienated everybody that was supposed to stand by him. The only governor that stood by him was just Fayose; and that was after he (Mimiko) called him two days before the election. “Nobody went there to help him (Mimiko) because everybody was fed up with him. He continued to remain in bed with Sheriff right until the time they had matters before the court.”

Menwhile, Mimiko on Monday, November 28, sent his congratulatory message to the governor-elect, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN). Akeredolu has since responded to Mimiko’s message, adding that he was looking forward to cooperation and a smooth transition from the incumbent government.
