Reps Probe NIMASA Over Non-Remittance Of $10bn

The House of Representatives is to probe the alleged non-remittance of $10 billion collected by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Adopting a motion by Rep. Chukwudi Jones Onyereri (PDP, Imo), the House mandated its committee on maritime safety, administration and education to investigate under-remittance of three percent levy, two percent surcharge and other revenues due and collectible by NIMASA over the period of eight years.

The committee will also obtain inputs from maritime stakeholders on the matter for the purpose of recovery and improvement of operational efficiency, cleaner ocean and safer shipping as stipulated in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) charter and the NIMASA Act.
The committee was further mandated to consider and track various implementations and compliance by both NIMASA and various stakeholders among others and report back within six weeks.
