Three men, John Nweke, Stephen Anike and Kelechi Emenike were on Wednesday arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos by the Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU) yesterday for allegedly obtaining i-Phones worth N35m from one of Nigeria’s leading e-commerce comapny, Konga, without paying for them.
The trio were accused of issuing Konga with two bank bounced cheques for the purchase of the mobile devices.
According to the police, the cheques “were dishonoured on the grounds that no funds were standing to the credit of the drawer of the cheques in the banks which the cheques were drawn.”
They were also accused of taking possession of the phones when they reasonably ought to have known that they stolen or proceeds of fraud.
The defendants in their statement pleaded not guilty to the charges.
However, Justice Abdulazeez Anka who presided the case in his ruling adjourned till Monday, October 10 for trial.
