Aisha Augie-Kuta, a Nigerian photographer and SSA New Media to Kebbi State Governor posted the photos, revealing that only three out of the children pictured here attend school. “The future! Only 3 of them go to school, we must work together to uplift the girl child. They create brooms on farms.” she wrote.
A recent report by UNICEF said that about 10 million children are currently out of school in Northern Nigeria. Most of these out-of-school children are girls residing in rural areas. UNICEF officer in Katsina State, Shehu Mohammed, identified poverty and socio-cultural and economic environment as reason for poor enrollment of children in schools.
