Three persons lost their lives after their vehicle plunged into a river on Friday afternoon at Idu village, on the Abuja-Lokoja road.
Our reporter learnt that two other persons who survived the accident with serious injuries, were taken to hospital by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
A witness said the accident happened at about 3:12 pm when a Nissan car had a tyre burst, adding that the driver, who was coming from the Lokoja axis after Ahoko village, applied the brakes suddenly.
He said the vehicle veered off the road and summersaulted thrice before it plunged into the river.
“The driver and two passengers were trapped and died after the car rammed into the pillars of the bridge and fell into the river ,” he said.
The Koton-Karfe unit commander of the FRSC, Ahmed Daura, could not be reached for comment, but an official of the corps confirmed the accident.
He said the three corpses had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, while the two injured persons taken to a private hospital at Koton-Karfe for treatment.
In a related development, eight people have sustained injures in a motor accident that occurred last Thursday evening at Piri village, on the Abuja-Lokoja road.
Our reporter gathered that the accident happened around 6:15pm after a Toyota car had a tyre burst and crashed into a ditch. It was learnt that the people injured were later rescued by FRSC officials and taken to Kwali General Hospital.
