JIGAWA: Court Remands Police Officer, Lawyer, Student In Prison


The Jigawa State higher court II sitting in Dutse has yesterday remanded a police corporal and a student in prison custody on alleged killing of one Bashir Musa, a student of Federal University, Dutse.

The accused person, Abdul Majid and corporal, Saminu Wada were arraigned before the court presided by  justice Muhammad Isa Gumel on alleged beating of the deceased with a stick.  He died as a result of injuries he sustained while on admission at police command hospital, Dutse.

According to the prosecuting counsel, the accused persons committed the alleged culpable homicide on 30th October, 2015 which is contrary to section 221 (B) of Jigawa State criminal code, 2012.

After reading the charges, both the accused persons pleaded not guilty. And also the counsel to the first accused person, Abdul Majid applied for the bail of his client.

The presiding judge adjourned the case to 14th April for determining the bail application and to continue with the case.

However in another case, the presiding judge of the court, Justice Isa Muhammad Gumel has remanded a Dutse based lawyer, Barrister Victor Jonah in prison custody after he was arraigned on alleged obstruction of ASP Muhammad Sale Abubakar from discharging his public duty.

In his submission before the court, the prosecuting counsel, who is also the attorney general of the state, Barister Sani Husaaini Garin Gabas said, the accused person abstracted the public servant from carrying out his duty in one Chemist Shop situated close to Dutse abbatoir, contrary to Section 211 Jigawa state criminal code.
