12 people including children died after flood disaster. Natural disaster happened in Bauchi state, Northeast Nigeria. Tragedy occurred in different communities in Northern state State Emergency worker stated that over 12 people have been confirmed dead as a result of flood in Ganjuwa and Giade local government areas of Bauchi state.
The deputy director in charge of Needs Assessment of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Bauchi state Musa Ladan made this known on Tuesday, August 30 during an interview with newsmen in the Northern state. Bauchi flood Ladan revealed that four persons died in Galamakira and Galam Baba communities in Miya district area of Ganjuwa local government area. Moreso, eight people were likewise said to have died due to the deluge Gulbuk community in Giade local government area of the state.
“The flood killed four children who went out in the rain to wash their bodies. Unfortunately for them on their way home, they stepped on a culvert which caved in and the flood took them away.” Ladan stated. The SEMA deputy director marrated that the people in the community were on time to quickly recover the corpse of one of the children. Likewise, two more corpses were recovered the following day.
Ladan informed that the fourth victim who was killed in the flood was a 65-year-old farmer called Alhaji Danladi whose house caved in because of the force of the wind that followed the flood. The permanent secretary of the SEMA, Aliyu Ahmad, said that agency team in Bauchi had gone to assess the affected communities to pay condolence to the affected victims’ families, and to evaluate the extent of damage wrecked by the natural disaster.
Also, the village heads of Galamakira and Galam Baba, Saleh Adamu and Ahmed Iliyasu, have called on the Bauchi government to build more primary health care centres in the communities so as to provide quick medical services to the people during cases of emergencies. Reports coming in a few hours ago has it that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state, along with Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, have assessed the damage done by thunderstorm and flood in Tudu village and surrounding communities of Dange Shuni in the state. by Taboola
