Ooni of Ife Pays “N24 as Bride Price” to Marry Daughter of Benin Bronze Caster


Tradition paid prominent role on Saturday I Benin when he Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi was asked to pay N24 only as bride price to take Wuraola Zainab Obanor, daughter of famous Igun N’ Eromwon, Mr. William Obanor, the Benin Bronze Caster as wife.

The king’s father, Prince Oluropo Ogunwusi paid the bride price at a colourful traditional ceremony at about 12:30pm.

This was followed by the bride family train that led Wuraola to the groom’s family.

Speaking on behalf of the Ogunwusi’s family, the monarch elder’s brother, Prince Adetunji Ogunwusi, informed the Obanor family why they were in Benin.
He said; “We are here to ask for the hand of Zynab. We will be happy if you grant us our request.”

Spokesman for the Obanors, Daniel Inneh, a retired Permanent Secretary, accepted the Ooni’srequest on behalf of the  family.

Wuraola was ushered out with dance and songs for the Ooni’s family to confirm her as the woman they came to take.

The traditional placement of the bride on the laps of the Ooni’s father was performed after the payment of the bride price.
