Two persons sustained gunshot wounds after suspected robbers opened fire on their vehicle last Friday at Ochonyi village, on the Abuja-Lokoja road.
City News gathered that the vehicle was forced to stop and the suspected robbers dispossessed the passengers of their monies and other valuables.
A victim of the attack, who identified himself as Abraham, said the incident happened around 4:12am.
He said he was travelling in the Toyota Sienna bus from Lagos to Kaduna along with other passengers when the vehicle was attacked.
He said about eight suspected robbers carrying weapons emerged from the bush and opened fire on the vehicle.
“It was when the driver attempted to reverse in order to escape that one of the robbers opened fire and bullets hit two people on the back seat, “ he said.
He said one of the vehicle’s tyres was deflated by gunshot and the car got stuck. “The robbers forced passengers to disembark and lie down, before they dispossessed them of their monies and other valuables,” he said.
Our reporter learnt that the robbery suspects fled into the bush after robbing the passengers. The two injured persons were taken to a hospital by some residents of the village, he also said.
When our reporter visited Chikara police station, the divisional police officer was said to be out. A police officer at the station, however said the division was not aware of the incident. He said the highway patrol team was always present on the road.
