Troops have killed an unspecified number of alleged Boko Haram insurgents following operations to block the terrorists’ logistics corridor in Borno State.
The area is around the Kekeno-Mile in Gudumbali.
Troops from 5 Brigade Quick Response Force (QRF) carried out the operation, Acting Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said.
He said the troops had intensified operations to clear the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.
The Army spokesman said Boko Haram terrorists suffered “heavy casualties” and some escaped with gunshot wounds during the operation.
The troops recovered 13 motorcycles and 1 170 litres of oil.
Meanwhile, troops of 119 Task Force Battalion conducted fighting patrol to deny Boko Haram terrorists fishing activities around Lake Chad.
Usman also disclosed the troops of 157 Task Force Battalion arrested a suspected Boko Haram terrorists’ spy.
He has been identified as Mallam Goni.
“The 55 year old suspect claimed he transports fish for the terrorists along Fish Dam and Cross Kauwa,” Usman said.
The spy is currently under interrogation at the 7 Multinational Joint Task Force Brigade Garrison.
