Umeh was arrested on Thursday, March 3, 2016, by the Department of State Security (DSS).
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied reports that it’s being sponsored by the former National Chairman of theAll Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sir Victor Umeh.
Umeh was arrested on Thursday, March 3, 2016, by theDepartment of State Security (DSS).
IPOB’s denial was contained in a statement released by it spokesperson, Emma Powerful on Friday, March 4.
“IPOB has no sponsor anywhere around the world. It is a big organisation pursuing the restoration of Biafra; one man or few people cannot sponsor us. Linking Umeh or suspecting any other Igbo politician is a ploy to deny him his mandate to become a Senator.”
“IPOB members sponsor themselves through monthly contributions and levies worldwide; one man lacks enough money to sponsor gigantic organization like IPOB.”
“We equally state that those saying that IPOB is delaying Nnamdi Kanu’s release are lying because they don’t know how IPOB operates.”
IPOB’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention since October 2015 and is currently being held at the Kuje Prisons on charges of treason.
