A 50-year-old paedophile identified simply as Oseni, escaped lynching by an angry mob after he allegedly raped his stepdaughter who is a minor.
Daily Trust reports that Oseni’s wife and the mother of the victim, had traveled for a wedding ceremony in Lagos when he took advantage of her and defiled her.
The suspect, an indigene of Akoko Edo in Edo State, committed the offence at his residence on Ajegunle Street in the Mpape area of Abuja.
According to information gathered, the victim’s uncle who identified himself as Emmanuel, the girl complained to her stepfather that she had a slight headache but instead of Oseni to get her some pain relieving tablets, he gave her a sleeping pill and went ahead to rape her.
It was when the mother returned to Abuja that the young victim told revealed what happened but the mother warned her daughter never to tell anyone.
“When I heard the rumour that my niece was raped by a man called Oseni, her stepfather, I called her mother to find out but she denied it. Later on, I called my daughter (the victim) to find out if what I have been hearing was true or not.
That’s how she opened up and told me how she was raped. I later invited Oseni to hear his own side of the story. But unfortunately, he accused me of denting his image and bragged to deal with me.”
It was in the process of the shouting match between them that attracted other tenants in Emmanuel’s house and together with his brothers, they gave the suspect a serious beating and stripped him naked in the process.
A co-tenant took up the narration.
“Emmanuel’s younger brothers descended on Oseni, beat him up and removed his clothes and dragged him along the street naked. The man was lucky because not long after, some policemen who were on patrol came to his rescue,” the tenant said.
