A judge faced severe criticisms from high-profile men in New Zealand which left him embarrassed after his nude photos taken at a nudist camp were published in the public gallery section of a website aimed at promoting the resort without his consent.
The judge whose identity was purposely withdrawn by New Zealand Herald, claimed that the camp used his photos without his permission.
Although the photos have been removed by the website of the Pineglades Naturist Club, which is located in Rolleston, officials maintained that the judge gave his consent to be photographed and they own the copyright of the images.
Apparently catching his fun, the judge was seen in one of the photos sitting naked in a grassy lawn, and in another playing a game naked.
Chief District Court Judge Jan-Marie Doogue said that she believes the judge has not violated the official Guidelines for Judicial Conduct by being nude in public.
Doogue said: “An image of [the judge] posted to a website without his knowledge has just been brought to my attention.”
Asked whether public use of the pictures would be considered a breach of the official Guidelines for Judicial Conduct, Doogue said: “The guidelines are intended as guidance for judges, and are not rules.
“Any issue relating to judicial conduct is a matter for the independent Judicial Complaints Commissioner. I am unaware of any complaint made to the commissioner in respect of [the judge].”
