A woman said to be under the spell of the Marine Spirit has been arrested for murdering her child and drinking the blood.
A 39-year-old woman identified as Ifeoma, has been arrested in Onicha Uboma Autonomous Community in the Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State, after she allegedly killed her one-year-old daughter, gorged out her eyes and drank her blood, Daily Independent reports.
It was gathered that the vampire woman committed the terrible act inside her husband’s shop. The husband, Azubuike Emedom, was said to have been away on a business trip and only returned to discover that his wife and the baby was missing from his home. He had to inform members of the community who launched a search for the baby with not result.
A resident narrated:
“It was after searching for them in the neighbourhood without result, that Emedom and the people proceeded to his shop, although he thought it abnormal for his wife and child to be in the shop that early.
When he got to the shop, he discovered that the shop was locked from the inside, but after repeated knocks and Ifeoma’s failure to open the door, Emedom was said to have broken down the door, only to find his wife inside, blood on her mouth and the baby wrapped in blood stained cloth.
When Emedom uncovered the baby, he discovered that she had died, even as her eye balls were plugged out and blood gushing from the sockets. The baby’s hands and legs were also broken.”
A community leader, also speaking on the gory act, said the suspect suffered from a certain Marine Spirit torment.
“I believe she used this child for sacrifices; she sucked the blood of the child because by the time we caught her, her mouth was full of blood. She killed the baby intentionally.
She always renders sacrifice to their gods in the river. Some months ago, she attempted to kill a woman from our community. She injured the woman with a knife,” he said.
The killer mother has been arrested and detained at the Ihitte/Uboma Police station while the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Enwerem, has confirmed the story, saying that investigations were on going.
