The Malawian man who has been nicknamed HYENA who was paid to have sex with young girls has been arrested.
After a BBC documentary which caused outrage the world over, Eric Aniva had been arrested on President Peter Mutharika’s orders.
The director of communication at State House Bright Molande told the BBC the man, known as a ‘hyena’ would be prosecuted for violating children’s rights.
The BBC reports President Mutharika was disturbed by the revelations made in the story and has vowed to crackdown on the cultural practice, more common in southern Malawi.
The man was featured in a story released last week, where he said he was paid to have sex with more than 100 girls, some as young as 12, and that he was HIV positive.
He is employed to have sex with girls and women as part of a “cleansing” initiation once girls reach puberty.
If a man dies, his wife is required by tradition to sleep with Aniva before she can bury him. If a woman has an abortion, again sexual cleansing is required.
