Russia’s Minister Detained For Receiving $2m Bribe, To Face 15 Years In Jail If Found Guilty


Alexei Ulyukayev reportedly received the bribe to help the oil giant Rosneft acquire a 50% stake in another oil company, Bashneft for 330bn roubles ($5bn). He was reportedly caught red-handed while receiving the bribe and will soon be charged to court.

A spokesman for Russia’s main anticorruption body, SK told newsmen, “This is about extortion of a bribe from Rosneft representatives accompanied by threats,”

Russia’s minister of economy, Alexei Ulyukayev has been arrested and detained over allegations that he received $2 million in bribes.

Ulyukayev, who became a minister in 2013 faces up to 15 years in jail if he is found guilty.
