Davey Dauzat, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder for killing his wife Natasha. Police responded to a disturbance call around 11am Thursday. Officers initially believed they had a hostage situation involving the two young kids, ages 1 and 2.
“He was still inside with the children at one point,” said Bellmead Police Sgt. Kory Martin. “We had a hostage negotiator who made contact with him and as soon as we made contact with him, asked him to come outside, he voluntarily came outside and we were able to get him into custody and we quickly had units run inside that home and secure those children and the crime scene.”
Police rushed into the home where they found Natasha’s body. Her head was found in the freezer. The two children were not injured. KCEN-TV reports that police had reported to the home earlier that same day to conduct a welfare check, but everything was fine.
Authorities, including the Texas Rangers and the Department of Public Safety Crime Scene Unit, continue to investigate. They have not said what Dauzat’s motive was for the killing. Dauzat is being held on $500,000 bail.
