Rivers United defensive midfielder Afeez Aremu has expressed his joy at seeing his side qualify for the Caf Champions League with a 2-1 win over Akwa United in the final match day of the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League.
Stanley Eguma’s men secured the win thanks to goals from Fred Obomate and Guy Kuemian, while Fortune Omoniwari netted the consolation for the Promise Keepers.
Aremu was in action in the contest played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday.
“We knew it would be difficult, and we wanted to win,”
“We were better in the second half,” he continued, “but we’re happy with qualification. We are all mentally strong.
“I enjoy the confidence from my coach, my teammates and the club,” he went on to acknowledge, “but I have a career behind me that earned it.”
