Gaël Kakuta has now agreed to play international football for the DR Congo after earlier rejecting the African nation.
According to reports in the Central African nation, the 25-year-old winger could be available for internationals with the Leopards of DR Congo as soon as the paperwork for his nationality switch is completed.
It is understood that the Congolese FA has swung into action to validate Kakuta’s choice with the world football governing body, Fifa.
The former Chelsea man, who can play as an attacking midfielder, has long been courted by DR Congo.
The Congo Football Federation (Fecofa) approached Kakuta in 2011, but the player turned down the offer at the time while with Fulham on loan from Chelsea.
Kakuta played for the French Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 national teams between 2006 and 2013.
He was part of the French under-19s that won the 2010 Uefa Under-19 Championship
