Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title-chasing Wikki Tourists missed the chance of reclaiming top spot after their 1-1 draw at Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.

Tornadoes with a superb home form in the Nigeria top-flight without a loss got off to a fine start in the 21st minute when Kunle Issa smashed home Anthony Abawula’s long throw-in.

Abawula’s long throw-ins continued to trouble the Tourists defence as they found them hard to deal with.

Wikki had to wait 43 minutes after Issa’s goal to draw level at the scenic Confluence Stadium in Lokoja.

Mubarak Umar’s ball pinged into Tornadoes’ box fell kindly for Charles Henlong to drill home from close range to ensure that Wikki remain unbeaten in three successive league games and at the same time without wins.

Wikki drop to second place with 44 points, one behind Enugu Rangers.

Guy Kuemian and Frederick Obomate scored as Rivers United despatched 3SC 2-0 to stay in third and within touching distance of the top-two. Rivers United now have 44 points but with inferior goal difference to Wikki.

Sunday’s early kickoff between Nigerian champions, Enyimba, and Kano Pillars finished 2-1 with the former running out 2-1 winners.

Ifeanyi Anaemena netted on 10 minutes and within seconds, Adamu Mohammed equalized for Pillars before Uche John’s goal from the spot on 73 minutes saw off the Kano club.

Enyimba have now completed their first ever double in a season over Kano Pillars as they are now fourth in the standings with 40 points.

Brazilian Alberico da Silva netted with the winner for FC Ifeanyiubah in their one-nil win over El-Kanemi while Kingsley Eduwo made amends for a penalty miss by scoring the only goal that helped Lobi Stars beat Plateau United 1-0.

Abia Warriors finally won a league game after 29 days of a string of poor results. Chinenye Agoha’s goal was enough to defeat Warri Wolves 1-0. Wolves finished the game with 10 men after Efe Yarhere was sent off.

Ifeanyi Ifeanyi and Stephen Odey scored as MFM FC made Heartland’s afternoon miserable at the Agege Stadium in Lagos. Heartland’s 0-2 loss means they remain in the relegation zone.
