Diego Maradona explains how the weak hierarchy of the AFA will see his fellow compatriot Lionel Messi never don the national shirt again.
The 1986 World Cup winning captain addresses the Messi-Argentina situation by saying he won’t change his decision as he brands the AFA to having “weak leadership.”
The Barcelona ace surprisingly called time on his international career after losing yet another major tournament. Messi failed to convert his spot-kick in the shootout against Chile which contributed to Argentina’s second consecutive Copa America Final defeat.
Maradona also believes new boss Edgardo Bauza will prove to be unsuccessful in luring the five-time Ballon d’Or winner out of retirement. Speaking to Radio La Red he claimed;
“I think Messi is going to say no to Bauza. This is my thinking. Maybe I’m wrong. We are very bad. We run the risk of not going to Qatar.”
While adding; “What happened with Messi exposes what’s been going on for a lifetime. How is it that the families of the (AFA) leaders are more comfortable than the players?“
Argentina’s painful International misery continued as they were dumped out of the Olympics failing to advance from the group stages.
