Mario Gotze is expected to complete his transfer from Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, according to Sky in Germany.

Sky in Germany understands Gotze will sign a four-year deal and the fee will be £18.3m (22m Euros) plus additions based on success.

Gotze scored 22 goals in 83 matches for Dortmund between 2009 and 2013, helping them to two Bundesliga titles and a German Cup.

He left for Bayern three years ago in a move that still rankles with some Dortmund supporters, who displayed a banner at a game in April making it clear they would not welcome him back.

However, the deal is on the verge of completion with Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Wednesday suggesting ahead of Bayern’s 1-0 win over Manchester City that he expected the deal to be completed on Thursday.

Gotze will sign a four-year deal at BVB, according to Sky in Germany

He told ZDF: “I think everything could be solved tomorrow [Thursday].”

When asked, Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti was unaware of news but wished the Germany international well if he does leave the Allianz Arena for a return to the Westfalenstadion.

After his side’s pre-season win, Ancelotti said: “I haven’t spoken with the club yet because we were focused only on this game.

“If Gotze leaves the club, then I wish him good luck for the new season, We have a fantastic squad. That’s it, I have nothing else to say.”

Gotze made just 14 Bundesliga appearances last season as he found his game-time was limited under Pep Guardiola.

The 24-year-old has won three Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup since moving to the Allianz Arena in a 37m Euro deal in 2013.
