Not so long ago, Michael Essien was a huge fan favourite at Stamford bridge so when the news filtered through that he is back training with Chelsea, fans flooded social media with messages of support.
The 33-year-old made just15 appearances last season for Panathiniakos, battling injuries and form for most of the season before being released but now he will now train with Antonio Conte’s side until he finds a new club.
Unfortunately for Chelsea fans, you will not be seeing Essien starting for Chelsea anytime soon but he did appear in a closed-doors friendly at Cobham against a Brentford B side, alongside another former player Josh McEachran.

Essein was a huge part of Chelsea’s success during an eight year spell at the club but left the club back in January of 2014.
He made over 200 appearances at the Bridge.
