Bournemouth tackle Pep’s in-form Manchester City tomorrow, while Eddie Howe wants to have Jack Wilshere as part of his travelling party the gaffer won’t risk him until he’s fully fit.
It’s been the story of Wilshere’s career. Injury has blighted him preventing minutes on the pitch and his move to Bournemouth appears to be the same story.
The Arsenal midfielder completed a deadline day loan move to the Cherries after being deemed surplus to requirements by Arsene Wenger.
Unsurprisingly, the 24-year-old was forced to undergo a scan on his left ankle earlier in the week. Despite training with his teammates the following day, Howe is reluctant to risk him while dealing with a niggling injury.
Though he is eager to play him but is aware of the aggravating the problem; “With the outstanding quality he has, there’s no doubt about that. We’d like to see him in the team as quickly as possible. It’s a delicate balance between rushing him into the team and the long term. We have to think of that. We want him to play a lot of games for us so we’ll put him in when we think it’s right.”
The England international made his debut from the bench last weekend during their victory against West Brom. And Howe is “pleased” with the impact he made; “I’ve been really pleased. I thought he had a big impact when he came on at a time in the game when the game was in the balance really.
We had lost the full control we had had in the first half and I thought he wrestled that back for us. It was a big contributing factor to us winning the game.”
