Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic moved to Old Trafford from Spartak Moscow for a measly £7 million enjoying a trophy-laden career under Sir Alex Ferguson but it could of been oh so different had he gone to fierce rivals Liverpool.
The Serbian defender has admitted he was tempted by a move to the Merseyside club after receiving a phone call from then-manager Rafael Benitez.
Fortunately for United fans, Sir Alex proceeded to fast track negotiations by meeting with Vidic who then sealed a deal in the next few days.
Ex-United skipper told Four Four Two magazine; “Rafa Benitez called me and I nearly went there.”
I was interested in going, but my English wasn’t good and I was struggling to communicate. Then Manchester United came.”
“Fergie called me at my apartment and said: ‘I watched you play for Serbia against France – I want you here’. United were decisive. Everything was done very quickly, within two days.”
Following his successful spell including five Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the Champions League triumph racking up 211 in the process, he joined Inter Milan in 2014 retiring after two difficult seasons in Italy.
Though, chief-tormentor Fernando Torres is probably happy he opted for United.
