Six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt admitted he missed the opening ceremony at the Maracanã Stadium because of his own laziness.

The Jamaican sprinter took to Snapchat to explain why he did not attend the parade, having carried the flag for his country at London 2012.

Opening Ceremony time but I won’t be there people, all the buses are out,” Bolt said in his opening message.

“Looks like the whole squad is out, road movements. One big lazy par me den pon today, no movement for me,” Bolt added

The charismatic 29-year-old is taking part in his final Olympics, and the reason for his absence can be put down to a number of factors.

Bolt’s preparations have been hampered by injuries, and while 200m victory at the London Anniversary Games suggested he is fit once again, perhaps his self-proclaimed laziness comes with a side of simply being cautious.

The fastest man in the world is under a week away from resuming his battle with USA’s Justin Gatlin for 100m dominance, so rest is likely the order of the day for Bolt.

Another factor and side-effect of being the most famous athlete at the Games is that everyone wants a selfie with you.

The ceremony would have been a selfie-fest for Bolt, and while the sprinter is rarely caught without a smile, the picture below with rugby star Sonny Bill Williams shows you won’t always catch him at a good time…
