A soccer player has collapsed and died during a training session. The league’s secretary-general Sweeney Mushonga confirmed that Nyasha Chakanyuka collapsed as the players were going through their warm-up routine.
The incident happened in South Africa.
“They were warming up in pairs and he told his colleague that he was having some chest pains and feeling dizzy, so he needed to sit down and rest a bit. He then collapsed moments later,” Mushonga said.
NewDay reports that a post-mortem to determine the cause of the death will be carried out today. Funeral arrangements are also expected to be announced today.
The 27-year-old left behind a wife and three children.
“As Northern Region Division One, we are in shock following the sudden death of one of our own, a player who had a bright future and a lot to offer to our football.
“We mourn this loss and we will observe a minute of silence for all our matches at the weekend in his honour,”Mushonga said.
