The Flying Antelopes as they are being called recorded an away victory at Ikorodu United on Sunday, September 27. Coach Imama Amakapabo says it is after his last game of the season that he would celebrate. Enugu Rangers won’t celebrate yet even though they have hundred percent chance of winning the League.

Even though it is expected that Nigerian Premier League side Enugu Rangers would emerge the next champions in the Nigeria’s top flight football with a game to end this season, the club’s handler Imama Amakapabo hs stated that he will not celebrate yet until the end of the last game.

The Flying Antelopes have given themselves a great chance to dethrone reigning champions Enyimba after overcoming already relegated Ikorodu United on Sunday. Enugu Rangers will need only a point in their last match against El-Kanemi Warriors for them to enter the history books after 32 years when the last won a major trophy. Interestingly, the last time Enugu Rangers were crowned champions in the Nigeria’s top flight under experienced tactician Christian Chukwu, the current handler Imama was a schoolboy then as a 15-year-old.

Imama Amakapabo said that he was satisfied with his wards’ performances against Ikorodu United on Sunday, but stressed that he won’t celebrate yet until the last duel. “I want to first thank my players because without them, we won’t be at the position we are today and special thanks must go to all my players. “It is not easy as you know that the Nigeria football is full of serious competition, and if can recall, you would see that for the last three seasons or four, winners were emerged on the last day.

“Our destiny is now in our hands because we need a point in our last game, but you know sometimes football is funny, and that is why I want to wait till the final whistle of our last match before the celebration party would begin,” Imama said. Enugu Rangers are the current leaders of the NPFL with 60 points with a match to end the season, and their closest challengers is Rivers United who occupy second position with 57 points.
