It has been uncovered that Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger refused to step aside for Pep Guardiola when he was available last year,
Sport reporter reports that the Gunners board were keen on the then-Bayern Munich boss to succeed Frenchman Wenger in north London.
They allegedly spoke to Wenger about taking early retirement but the Frenchman rejected the offer.
Wenger, who is known to have huge influence on all areas of the club, seemed to personally block the move for the Guardiola as he wanted to see out the remaining year of his deal after he had signed a three-year deal with Arsenal in 2014 after winning the FA Cup for the second consecutive year .
The former Barcelona boss has always spoken fondly of Arsenal, to the point where when he left Spain before Bayern, he was often mooted to be the successor.
